Easy Crispy Fried Calamari Pinterest

This easy crispy fried calamari is fast and easy to make, it is a delicious appetizer for entertaining that will disappear in no time!

It is also a delicious starter or meal served with a mixed salad and/or French fries, have everything ready before frying the calamari as they are best served hot.

I used frozen calamari, they were quite small and very tender. I thawed them under cold water, it just takes minutes. Then I checked that they were clean inside and that the bone was removed, sliced them into about half inch thick rings and pat them dry.

For a gain of time I think you can find frozen calamari rings, I like to buy whole calamari as it allows me to make different dishes out of them.

This time I didn’t make a batter, I just added some flour and cornmeal into a plastic bag, added the calamari rings, then shake shake shake (shake your booty ?) and fry, served with some mayo.

Recipe :

Ingredients:

16 oz. (500 g.) frozen calamari, thawed

1 cup of flour

1/4 cup of cornmeal

Salt and pepper to taste

32 oz. (1 liter) vegetable oil for the frying bath

Sauce:

1/2 cup mayo

Pepper to taste

1 tbsp. parsley or chives

Instructions:

Thaw the calamari into a bath of cold water, check that they are clean inside and that the bone is removed, pat them dry and slice them into about 1/2 inch thick rings

Into a fryer or deep pan, heat the vegetable oil up to 350°F (180°C), if you don’t own a thermometer, you can check if your oil is hot enough by dipping the end of a wooden spoon, if the oil starts bubbling around the spoon, you can start frying

Add the flour, cornmeal, salt and pepper into a plastic bag, shake to mix, add the calamari rings, shake and press to coat

Add into the frying bath in small batches, one by one or they will stick together, fry for about 4 minutes or until golden

Gather with a slotted spoon and set aside on a dish covered with paper towel

Mix all the ingredients for the sauce and serve immediately

Oh Patty, I love this easy calamari recipe! Eric thinks he doesn't like them (he does that with anything he hasn't had before) I should make them some time and he won't know what they are !

I love calamari but only have it when we go out with others as Christopher doesn't like it! I'm going to invite my sister over and make your delicious recipe!
